Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-Oct-2014
Very dark, deep, near impenetrable purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly concentrated and finely expressed with intense aromas of ripe black berry and plum fruit, lifted with an array of floral perfumes, spices and black pepper. Medium-full bodied and well-proportioned on palate, ripe fruit flavours of dark berry fruit and plums show with restrained succulence, lifted with violet perfumes and spice notes. The mouthfeel is supple and accessible with ripe, fine-grained tannins and subtle background acidity. The fruit sweetness and fine textures carry the palate leading to a very long lingering finish which unfolds spice and oak elements. This is an elegant and aromatic Syrah with ripe black fruits and floral perfumes, on a fine and supple palate. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 5-6 years. 100% Syrah from the Gimblett Gravels, 67% from the ‘Trust’ block and 33% from the ‘Mere Road’ vineyard, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 73% French and 27% American oak of which 44% was new. 18.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $25.00
