Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Jun-2013
Moderately deep, even ruby-red colour with purple hues. This has a fresh, lifted and aromatic nose of dark red berry fruits and black pepper, bramble and herbs, spices, and savoury jam. Medium-bodied, juicy flavours of red fruits, pepper and brown spices show with freshness and sweetness. The palate has a good core with modest tannin extraction providing soft, supple textures and an accessible mouthfeel. The flavours are up-front, revealing raspberry, white pepper and red liquorice notes on a gentle, but juicy finish. This is an aromatic and sweetly, juicy Syrah with some savoury jam notes. Serve with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from 75% ‘Trust’ and 25% ‘Mere Road’ sites in the Gimblett Gravels, given a cold soak and fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 78% French and 22% American oak. 16.5+/20 Jun 2013 RRP $24.95
