Predominantly Merlot with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc from the ‘Mere Road' vineyard given a cold soak and fermented with some whole berries to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 75% French and 25% American oak barrels. Very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour, this has a softly deep and intense nose of dark plum and blackcurrant fruit, with cool nuances of mint, as well as tobacco, ink and oak spices. Medium-full bodied, lush, deep and ripe flavours of blackcurrants and dark plums intermingle with mint, chocolate and oak spices. The palate is supported by fine, supple and soft tannins allowing the fruit to feature and fill the mouth. Cedary, spicy oak flavours and tannins are prominent on the long, flavoursome finish. This is a richly dense, soft textured but bold wine that shows astute oaking to match the rich fruit.
