Mills Reef ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-May-2016
Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, with a lighter edge, quite youthful in appearance. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned with intense aromas of ripe blackberry fruit with dark red and black plum fruit, blackcurrants, herb and menthol elements, spicy oak and iron-earth minerals. Medium-full bodied, the palate is finely concentrated with vibrant and lively fresh and primary fruit flavours of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, spicy plums and subtle earthy notes. The mouthfeel is well-balanced with the sweet fruit matched by good tannin extraction, grip and structure and fresh, lively acidity. The wine flows with vitality and energy, the supple tannins carrying the wine to a fresh, vibrant, lingering, dry finish with layers of cassis and cedary oak. This is an elegantly concentrated, rich and vibrant Cabernet/Merlot with balanced grip and freshness. Match with roasted lamb, bllef and game meat over the next 6-7+ years. A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot from the Mere Road vineyard, Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 83% French and 17% American oak,. of which 24% was new. 18.5-/20 May 2016 RRP $24.95
