Mills Reef Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Jan-2012
A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from sites in Hawke's Bay, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in oak for 10 months. Very full, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, youthful in appearance. The nose is soft and full with gentle plum and ripe currant aromas interwoven with spicy, cedary oak and a little earthiness. The fruit is straightforward and positively presented. Medium-bodie, moderately rich and sweet flavours of plums and berries form a harmonious amalgam including herbs, spice and cedar, which are enhanced by mouthwatering acidity. The tannin extraction is balanced, resulting in supple, soft textures with a moderately concentrated core. This is a cleverly assembled wine with softness and richness and an attractive fruit and oak combination. A wine to serve with pasta and barbecued red meat dishes over the next 2-4 years. 16.5-/20 Jan 2012 RRP $18.95
