Mills Reef Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 07-Oct-2013
Even, dark ruby-red colour with light purple hues. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned with intensely penetrating aromas of dark red berry fruit and white pepper infused with spices, exotic florals and meaty, toasty nuances. Medium-light bodied, a core of sweet, red berry and plum flavours with white pepper lift is the feature on the palate. The fruit is up-front and the lusciousness is enhanced by good acid freshness and soft, supple, moderately extracted tannins. The flavours are carried positively to a long, juicy and rich finish with sweet fruit and oak notes. This is an attractively sweet-fruited and soft-textured Syrah with spicy plum and aromatic peppery flavours. Serve with pasta, pizza and barbecued food, as well as Middle Eastern-inspired fare over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Mere Road’ vineyard, given a cold soak and fermented to 12.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 56% American and 44% French oak. 17.0+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $18.95
