Mills Reef ’Estate’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on edge. The nose is softly full with fragrant and ripe dark red berry and plum fruit aromas intermixed with blackcurrant and olive notes and some lifted whole berry fermentation jam and confectionary elements. Medium to medium-full bodied, the palate features up-front, sweetly ripe and juicy, dark plum fruit flavours melded with blackcurrants, revealing some toasty oak and jammy notes. The mouthfeel is fresh and lively with bright acidity and the wine follows a grainy, textured line. The extract and grip carries the wine to a moderately long finish. This is an up-front, ripe and juicy Merlot/Cabernet blend with plum, currant and confectionary flavours and a grainy texture. Match with barbecued and grilled red meat dishes over the next 4 years. 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine aged for approx. 12 months in predominantly French oak. 17.5-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $18.00
