Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with slight purple tints, a little lighter edged. This has a very full, rich and densely packed nose of ripe blackberry fruit with spicy and savoury dark red plum notes, complexed by layers of iron-earth, game, dried herb and sweet, cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is well-concentrated and solidly packed with flavours of sweetly ripe, blackberries and spicy plums, unfolding waves of liquorice, sweet oak, savoury game and iron-earth. The fruit is supported by plenty of fine, grainy tannin extraction and the structure with integrated acidity is a feature of the mouthfeel. The wine is carried by the grip to a very long, solid and concentrated finish. This is a full, concentrated, solidly packed Merlot with rich, spicy plum flavours and plenty of grip and structure. Serve with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 8-10 years. Hand-picked fruit from the Mere Road vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented with a portion of whole berries to 13.6% alc., the wine on skins 12 days post ferment and aged 17 months in 28% new French oak. 18.5+/20 Aug 2015 RRP $49.95
