Brilliant light golden-yellow colour, pale on the rim. This has a very full and densely packed nose with aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits harmoniously layered with nutty oak, subtle flinty complexities, mealy elements and oxidative suggestions. Creamy and nutty barrel-ferment and buttery, toasty elements emerge in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich, luscious and juicy, with lively and vibrant flavours of yellow stonefruits entwined with mealy and nutty notes, and complexing oxidative hints. The mouthfeel is fulsome, but has a stylish restraint, and underlined by creamy and nutty barrel-ferment and toasty notes. The flavours unfold in layers to fill the mouth, but are balanced by fresh, lacy, bright acidity lending verve, energy and tension. The wine flows along a fine-textured line to a long, elegantly concentrated nutty and toast finish. This is a rich and complex-layered Chardonnay with a bright, lively, fine-textured palate. Match with roasted white meat dishes over the next 5-6 years. Fruit from the Mere Road vineyard, Gimblett Gravels, hand-picked, WBP and barrel-fermented with 13% by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months on lees in 91% French oak, with 23% of the oak new, undergoing batonnage and 25% MLF. 19.0/20 May 2016 RRP $39.95
