Mills Reef ‘Elspeth’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Oct-2015
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Mere Road’ vineyard, fermented to 13.3% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 80% French and 20% American oak, the oak 43% new. Very full black-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has an elegantly proportioned, and well-concentrated nose of ripe blackcurrant fruit and savoury black iron-earth layers melded harmoniously and enriched by sweet, lifted oak vanilla notes. The nose reveals waves of oak cedar and smoky elements, unfolding very smoothly. Full-bodied, mouthfilling flavours of sweet blackcurrant and savoury blackberry flavours are beautifully integrated with sweet vanilla and cedary oak. The mouthfeel is smooth-flowing with the fruit supported by very fine-grained tannin extraction and considerable structure. The palate possesses linear drive with soft acid energy, and flows to a long, sustained, smoothly integrated finish. This is a rich, harmoniously balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with waves of sweet fruit and oak, and a very fine-grained structure and line. Match with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 7-10 years. 19.0/20 Oct 2015 RRP $45.00
