Mills Reef ‘Elspeth’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 06-May-2011
Very full, deep, dark ruby-red colour with purple hues, this has a softly rich, intense nose of ripe blackcurrant fruit complexed by savoury meat aromas, as well as a distinctive game-like brettanomyces component. An elegant, medium full-bodied wine, this has rich, intense juicy blackcurrant, cassis and blackberry flavours supported by significant, but supple and rounded tannins. This is very accessible now, an advantage as the wine may become drier and more astringent as the gamey brett characters develop. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Mere Road' vineyard given a four day cold soak, then fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine then aged 16 months in 27% new French oak. Drink with roasted red meats and barbecued food over the next 3-5 years. 17.5+/20 May 2011 RRP $45.00
