Mills Reef ‘Elspeth’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2011

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Nov-2013
65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 81% new French oak. Very dark-hearted, deep, ruby-red colour. This has a fulsome and sweetly rich nose of ripe blackcurranty fruit and lifted oak, the bouquet building in depth and showing delicate nuances. Medium full-bodied, this is elegantly proportioned and tightly bound. The palate is one of slender finesse and intensity, the blackcurranty fruit well spiced by the spicy, cedary oak. The flavours follow a fine, driven line to a fine, tight, dry-textured finish. This well-oaked wine is tight and elegant, still bound up in expression. It will unfold over 7-9 years. 18.5/20 Nov 2013 RRP $45.00
