Michel Gassier ‘Nostre Pais’ Costieres de Nimes 2010

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 12-Oct-2012
Very full, very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, this has a tight, deep nose of savoury dark plum fruit aromas that reveal distinctive brown spices, undergrowth, dried herb and tarry-game elements that hint at rusticity. Full-bodied, this has densely packed flavours of dark raspberries, dried herbs, earth and undergrowth, driven through the palate by underlying tannins and alcoholic power. The acidity tends towards the low side, and the fruit has a ripe softness and restraint, with complex savoury spices that lead to a dry, grainy finish with some bitter chocolate and berry flavours. This is a full, deep, ripe southern Rhone red with savoury spices and herbal flavours that add interest to the fruit. Match with roasted game meat and hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. 35% Grenache, 25% Carignan, 20% Mourvedre, 15% Cinsault and 5% Syrah, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 6 months in barrel. 800 cases made. 18.0-/20 Oct 2012 RRP $21.50
