McManis River Junction California Chardonnay 2017

Chardonnay from USA
Review Date : 08-Oct-2018
Bright yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on the rim. The nose is initially soft and gentle in expression but builds to show a finely packed core with an amalgam of fresh yellow stonefruits, citrus fruit and pineapples, along with fragrant, subtle oak lift. This has au underlying freshness to the aromatics. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, tropical fruit and pineapple along with lifted fragrant oak, forming a plush, sweet-fruited heart. This has good weight, richness and depth, and a little alcoholic power providing drive. The wine carries along a light-textured line with fine acid cut and plenty of energy, carrying to a long, rounded finish. This is a rich, rounded Chardonnay with flavours of stonefruits, tropical fruit and pineapples with fragrant oak forming a sweet heart with some power and drive. Match with roasted pork over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘River Junction’ vineyard at the confluence of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus rivers, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in new and seasoned French and American oak with two-thirds undergoing MLF. 18.0/20 Oct 2018 RRP $25.00
