McManis Lodi California Zinfandel 2013

Zinfandel from USA
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Moderately-deep ruby-red colour with purple hues, lighter on rim. The nose in elegantly concentrated with up-front aromas of blackberry and blueberry fruit with subtle notes of bramble and undergrowth, along with some dusty oak. This grows in depth and firm intensity with aeration. Medium-bodied. rich and sweet, up-front and open flavours of ripe blueberries, blackberries and boysenberries are lifted by violet floral elements. The fruitiness is accessible, showing soft jammy hints. The palate has grainy tannins that underline the fruit, lending some grip and structure, carrying the wine to a fresh finish with confectionary flavours. This is an open and up-front Zinfandel with black and blue fruits and a grainy mouthfeel and structure with grip. Match with barbecued and grilled red meat dishes over the next 4+ years. Zinfandel fruit fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4-6 months in French and American oak, a portion new. 16.5+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $23.00
