McManis ‘Jamie Lynn Vineyard’ California Barbera 2013

Barbera from USA
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Barbera fruit from the ‘Jamie Lynn’ vineyard fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged approx. 6 months in French and American oak, a portion new. Even ruby-red colour, lighter on edge. This has an elegant nose with initially restrained fresh dark raspberry fruit aromas, revealing lifted red florals, herbs and spices and some cherry fruit pastille confectionary notes. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, sweet and succulent raspberry and dark cherry fruit flavours grow in juiciness, unfolding herbal interest. The mouthfeel is bright and vibrant with elevated varietal acidity, and the wine follows a fine-grained tannin line. There is some alcoholic power adding to the drive, leading to a vibrant raspberryish finish. This is a bright and juicy, raspberry-fruited Barbera with lively acidity and fine, grainy tannins. Match with pork, lamb and beef, and Mediterranean fare over the next 3-4 years. 17.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $23.00
