McManis California Syrah 2013

Syrah from USA
Review Date : 18-Mar-2015
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with light purple hues on rim. This has a soft and full nose with well-concentrated aromas of ripe blackberry and boysenberry fruit harmoniously entwined with dark red floral, spice, game and toasty oak detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate features ripe black and blue berried fruits integrated with layers of spice, black pepper and chocolate. Spicy, cedary oak adds to the interest, and some blackberry jam nuances energe. The palate is well-balanced with discreet acidity and supple tannin extraction. This has an attractive mouthfeel and presence that carries with some alcohol drive to a positive and sustained finish. This is a ripe, sweet-fruited, well-structured and balanced Syrah with black fruits, spices and toasty flavours. Serve with slow-cooked game meat and casseroles over the next 4-5 years. Syrah fruit fermented to 11.5% alc., the wine aged approx. 6 months in French and American oak. 17.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $23.00
