McManis California Petit Verdot 2015

Other Red from USA
Review Date : 02-May-2017
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full, up-front and accessibly fruity with concentrated aromas of blackberries and boysenberries, entwined with a fine line of blackcurrants and herb, along with earth, unfolding cedary and toast oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a rich, sweet core of blackberries and blackcurrant fruit along with cassis liqueur and nuances of herbs. The fruit sweetness is balanced by fine, grainy, tannin extraction and fresh, underlying acidity. Toasty and cedary oak flavours unfold and meld with the fruit, carrying to a long, sweet, lingering finish of black fruits and toasty oak. This is a rich, sweet and well-concentrated Petit Verdot with ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit layered with cedary, toasty oak on a well-balanced, structured palate with good vitality. Match with barbecued lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 4-5 years. California fruit fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4-6 months in new and seasoned French and American oak. 17.5+/20 May 2017 RRP $25.00
