Maude ‘Mt Maude Vineyard’ Central Otago ‘Reserve’ Chardonnay 2009

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 26-Jul-2011
Brilliant, light lemon-yellow colour with a pale edge, this has a fresh citrus and stone fruited, lifted bouquet with layered, broad aromas of cream and butter and nuts from an amalgam of MLF and barrel-fermentation. Medium-full bodied, this is rich, soft and luscious, the creaminess and nuttiness interwoven and mouthfilling. Citrusy fruit sits in the background, and with the acidity, provides a fine line and structure for the length of the palate. This is an up-front and rounded wine where the MLF and oak feature, but it possesses sufficient freshness and cut for balance. Match with rich pork, pasta and poultry dishes over the next 4-5 years. ‘Cuve Marc antonin' on the back label, the wine made with input from Marc Antonin Blain of the famous Blain-Gagnard domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet. The fruit basket-pressed and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc. then aged in seasoned French oak puncheons, with 100% MLF. 18.0-/20 Jul 2011 RRP $24.00
