Maude Central Otago Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 17-Sep-2012
Larcombe clone fruit from the ‘Mt Maude' vineyard and a Pisa Range site, the former WBP and stainless-steel fermented. The Pisa Range fruit was foot-stomped for some maceration and 40% fermented in seasoned oak barriques. The resultant wine is 13.5% alc. with 5.1 g/L rs. Bright straw-yellow colour with some slight green hues, pale on rim. The nose is delicate with subtle floral aromas lifted by fermentation esters, revealing exotic spice notes and honey in the glass. Off-dry to taste, attractively zesty acidity features on the palate, providing a slippery and racy mouthfeel, enlivening the fruit flavours of pears, white florals and honey. There is a core of fruit richness which melds with the residual sugar, and this flows smoothly to a long, lingering finish with lifted florals and spices. This is a crisp, racy, but smooth-textured Pinot Gris with exotic nuances. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4+ years. 18.0/20 Sep 2012 RRP $22.00
