Matua Valley ‘Single Vineyard’ Matheson Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Sep-2011
Very full, dark, near-impenetrable black-red with purple hues, the nose has excellent depth and fine intensity of black plums and black ink complexed by fresh minerally notes and nuances of earth. Full-bodied, this has excellent purity of fruit expression, the palate showing ripe black plum and sweet oak flavours in the background. The wine is refined, elegantly proportioned, and has an extremely fine-textured framework. There is considerable concentration and depth, and fresh acid provides perfect tension and poise. Fruit from vines over 15 y.o. from the ‘Matheson' vineyard, given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc. A refined wine with purity of fruit, and subtle power and depth to make it a match for fine red meat courses and hard cheeses over the next 8-10 years. 18.5+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $69.99
