Matua Valley ‘Single Vineyard’ Matheson Hawke’s Bay Grenache/Syrah/Viognier 2009

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Sep-2011
A southern French styled blend. Fruit from the ‘Matheson' vineyard from vines over 15 y.o., given a cold soak and fermented with the Viognier to 14.0% alc., the wine then aged 10 months in 30% new French oak barriques. Deepish ruby-red colour with some garnet on edge. Very fragant on the nose with savoury, cooked red berry fruits lifted with apricot and floral perfumes. Game, raspberry and pepper, as well as oak cedar show in ethereal layers. Medium-full bodied, this has a juicy and plush mouthfeel, with core flavours of red berry fruits, plums and liquorice with exotic floral and tropical nuances and nutty cedary elements. The wine is moderately extracted and the supple tannins are gently supportive. Long spicy flavours mark the finish. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4-6 years. 18.5-/20 Sep 2011 RRP $69.99
