Matua Valley ‘Single Vineyard’ Matheson Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Sep-2011
Very full, impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues, this has a concentrated and densely packed nose of ripe blackcurrant fruit with some black ink and fragrant, spicy oak lift. Somewhat shy and restrained in flavour, black berry fruits and cassis slowly unfold and reveal sweetness and excellent ripening. The wine is still tightly bound, but the finesse of the tannin structure is the feature, showing smooth, sleek textures and mouthfeel. The acidity is balanced and adds to the crisp, sustained finish and subtle, rich fruit and oak notes. Fruit from the ‘Matheson' vineyard from vines over 15 y.o., given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc. A wine that will develop over the next 7-9+ years with elegance and refinement. Match with roast lamb and fine cuts of beef. 18.0+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $69.99
