Matua Valley ‘Reserve Release’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 04-Apr-2012
Full, dark, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has an intense, very aromatic and lifted nose of dark red florals, spices, white pepper with whole berry elements. Medium-full bodied, this is an elegant and finely presented wine with flavours of black violets, dark red berry fruit, spices and pepper framed in a very fine-grained structure. There is a richness and suppleness present and the oak is very integral and unobtrusive. The flavours flow through the palate seamlessly, with plenty still to unfold from the core. Attractive aromatic fruit, florals and pepper linger on a long finish. Serve this fine-featured, aromatic Syrah with Asian cuisine over the next 4-5+ years. Fruit from three clones of Syrah from the ‘Matheson' vineyard from vines up to 15 y.o., co-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in oak barrels as well as with French oak stave contact. 18.5-/20 Apr 2012 RRP $21.95
