Vey dark, near impenetrable, black-hued purple-ruby colour, very youthful in appearance. The nose is elegant and finely concentrated with rich aromas of ripe blackberry fruit harmoniously melded with black plums, violet florals and Asian spice elements. This has depth and intensity, and reveals black pepper and black mineral notes and lifted oak with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegant in proportion with succulent and luscious flavours of blackberry fruit alongside black pepper, violet and dark red florals and nuances of spice. The mouthfeel is refined and smooth textured with fine-grained, supple tannin extraction and structure. The wine has linearity, vitality and energy, with lively, lacy acidity. The wine carries to a long, lingering finish with black pepper and minerals. This is an elegant and refined, aromatic Syrah with black fruits, pepper and florals and a vibrant, supple mouthfeel. Serve with wild duck or pork, and with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 7-9+ years. A blend of 3 Syrah clones from the ‘Matheson’ vineyard, hand-picked and fermented with a high proportion of whole berries in French oak cuves to 13.6% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 50% new French oak and a small percentage of American oak. 256 cases made. 19.0/20 Oct 2015 RRP $57.99
