Match Book Old Head Chardonnay 2019, California

Chardonnay from USA
Review Date : 15-Dec-2020
Bright, medium straw-yellow with a golden hue, faintly lighter on the rim. The nose is with volume, nuances of pineapple, rockmelon interweave toasty oak aromas of vanilla, caramel and nuts. Full-bodied, dry to taste, aromas of grilled pineapple, rockmelon; enriched by caramel, vanillin and toasty oak elements. The fruit is ripe and rounded, complimenting the vanilla, toasty oak elements, growing in volume on the palate, along with buttery texture in good proportion, added to the mouthfeel, bringing the wine together in harmony. The lively acidity is in balance, providing some freshness. This is well rounded, full-bodied California Chardonnay with flavours of tropical fruit and toasty oak, vanilla details on a buttery palate. Match with roasted chicken and cheddar cheese over the next 2-3 years. 100% Estate grown fruit from Dunnigan Hills, 97% Chardonnay, 3% Verdejo. Fermented in 75% barrels and 25% in stainless steel to 13.9% alc, 60% MLF. Aged in a combination of French, American & European oak, 22% new oak. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Dec 2020 RRP $25
