Matawhero Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2021, Gisborne

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborne
Review Date : 07-Jun-2023
Bright, even, pale yellow-gold. The nose is attractive, with lush aromas of stonefruit, melon, flint, balanced nutty, and creamy richness. Full-bodied, aromas of ripe stonefruit melded with melon and pineapple, unfolding a hint of floral, flinty oak, and creamy layer. The wine is harmonious with lush fruit, elegant layers of toasty oak, and flinty barrel-fermented elements. Lovely texture and weight in mid-palate, fresh acidity lifted the palate and lingered to a juicy, refined finish. This is a well-made Chardonnay with elegance and layers on a broad palate. Match with roasted pork and chicken over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from Golden Slope, Mendoza clone, handpicked, barrel fermented, full MLF, aged in French and American oak. 13.5% alc. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Jun 2023 RRP $31
