Matariki ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Feb-2015
Full, dark, black-hued red with a little garnet on rim, still youthful in appearance. The bouquet is softly full with gentle aromas of ripe black plum fruit lifted by sweet cedary oak and piqued by some blackcurrant fruit notes. The nose is harmoniously integrated and smoothly expressed. Medium-full bodied, soft and rich flavours of ripe dark plums show with blackcurrant, mint and leaf nuances, along with cedary and spicy oak notes. This is smooth-flowing with a rounded mouthfeel and supple tannins that are beginning to mellow and resolve. The flavours recede gently to a light, soft, sustained finish. This is a full, rounded, supple Merlot blend with black plum flavours and curranty nuanced integrated with cedary oak. Match with roasted lamb and beef over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Gravels fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine aged in French oak barriques. 17.5-/20 Feb 2015 RRP $36.00
