Full, deep, dark ruby-red with garnet hues and some brick on the rim. This has a full, well-proportioned, densely packed bouquet of savoury red plum fruit softly interwoven with layers of dried herbs, currants and leaf, with complex secondary earthiness and game nuances adding detail. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rounded with plenty of depth and presence at the core, with concentrated flavours of dark, savoury, earthy, plum fruit alongside curranty notes. A firm, drying tannin line emerges to provide grainy textures and structure. There is fresh acidity which enlivens the fruit and mouthfeel to balance the extraction, and the wine carries through to a long, juicy, vibrant finish with fine, firm tannins and liquorice elements. This is a well-concentrated Merlot/Cabernet blend with savoury plum and currant flavours showing some secondary complexity, but is still fresh and firm. Match with roast lamb and beef over the next 6-7+ years. Hand-picked fruit, 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Gravels fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 2 years in 50% new French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Jul 2015 RRP $36.00
