Matariki Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 08-Jul-2012
Light ruby-red colour with some garnet hues. This bouquet is firm and tight, a little reserved, showing aromas of dark red berry fruits with notes of iron-earth and savoury herbs. Medium-bodied, sweetly luscious ripe red berry fruit flavours form a good, deep core to the palate. Savoury game and meaty elements combine with nuances of undergrowth and earth, providing good interest. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by lively acidity and supported by fine, underlying tannins. The fruit flavours carry through to a soft, long finish featuring red fruits with hints of mushrooms. This is an attractively sweet-fruited, and lively Pinot Noir with savoury interest and the structure to keep well over the next 4-6 years. Match with Mediterranean cuisine. Fruit from the cooler sites of Matariki's vineyard. Fully destemmed and fermented to 13.25% alc., the wine spending 6-8 days on skins. The wine was matured 18 months in 10% new French oak barriques. 17.5-/20 Jul 2012 RRP $33.90
