Matariki Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 31-Jul-2015
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with a dark heart, a little lighter on rim, youthful in appearance. The nose is fresh and elegant with bright, vibrant, dark red berry fruit aromas entwined with white and black pepper notes, and lifted violet florals. Some esters add to the lift and the oaking is integrated. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, sweet, lively and vibrant dark red and black berry fruits are the feature on the palate. The fruit is enriched by spices and black and white pepper, and is aromatically lifted. The wine has bright, lacy acidity and flows with good energy and tension along a fine tannin line, leading to an elegant peppery and spicy finish. This is an elegant, fresh and lively Syrah with lifted aromatics and a fine tannin line. Match with barbecued and grilled red meats over the next 4-5 years. Multi-clone blend, fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented with a portion of whole bunches to 13.0% alc., the wine aged over 18 months in 20% new French oak. 17.5-/20 Aug 2015 RRP $TBC
