Matahiwi Wairarapa Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 12-Feb-2011
The Matahiwi wines offer good value in the Wairarapa scheme of things. This wine delivers much in its price range of $25.00. Dark ruby red in colour, with good depth, this has a fulsome nose of dark berry fruits and plums with a touch of savoury-earthy, and tobacco-like elements and decent oak backing. On palate, this is a solid, full wine, at 13.5% alc., the drying structure being the feature. Overall, only moderately tannic, the dark fruit and complexing flavours sit behind the extract. This will be a versatile wine with most red meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Made from fruit from the Matahiwi vineyard, clones 115, 114, 10/5 and Abel, given a cold soak, fermented at 28-32°C with 3-10 days on skins, a portion oak matured for 8 months. 17.0-/20 Nov 2010 RRP $33.00
