Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 01-Oct-2014
Bright, light straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. This has a very elegant and finely concentrated nose of nectarines and greengages with subtly interwoven spicy herbs, complexing nutty barrel-ferment and delicate flinty lees detail. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features a tight and elegantly concentrated core of green stonefuits, gooseberries and citrus fruits, herbs and spicy oak. The mouthfeel is bright and vibrant, with racy, slippery acidity enhancing the fruit lusciousness and providing mouthwatering texture. A very fine phenolic thread underlines the palate and the wine flows with vitality to a long, lingering, thirst-quenching dry finish with herb and minerally notes. This is a youthfully tight and refreshingly lively oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc that will grow in richness and interest over the next 3+ years. Serve with herb marinated seafood and poultry, and Mediterranean salads and vegetables. Fruit from the Matahiwi home vineyard in Opaki, fully barrel-fermented in seasoned French oak by cultured and indigenous yeasts to 13.0% alc., the wine aged on lees with batonnage. 18.0+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $28.99
