Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Wairarapa Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 27-Jan-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red with youthful purple edge. The nose is very firm and deeply concentrated with primary aromas of dark red berry and black cherry fruit along with violet perfumes intermixed with herbs, minerals and creamy, spicy oak. Medium-full bodied, rich and concentrated flavours of ripe black cherries and red berry fruits are entwined with violets, black herbs, spiced plums and toasty oak. The fruit is supported by fine-grained tannins providing serious structure and underlying grip. The fruit flows positively with balanced, ripe acidity, and the extraction carries the densely packed flavours to a textured, long lingering finish. This is a well-structured and concentrated ripe Pinot Noir with black cherry and spicy, toasty oak flavours. Match with beef, lamb and venison over the next 6-8 years. The best wine from the Matahiwi Estate home vineyard. Mixed Pinot Noir clones including 114, 115, Abel and 10/5 given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 21 days on skins and aged 12 months in 35% new French oak. 18.5/20 Jan 2015 RRP $34.99
