Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Wairarapa Late Harvest 2013

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 27-Mar-2014
A botrytised late harvest wine, a blend of 69% Sauvignon Blanc and 39% Riesling from the ‘Home’ vineyard in Opaki and the ‘Manu’ vineyard west of Masterton. The fruit was hand-picked and a small portion given skin contact, two-thirds fermented in stainless-steel and one-third in seasoned French oak to 11.0% alc. and 124 g/L RS, the wine aged in barrel 5 months. Brilliant light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has a very full and well-concentrated bouquet of ripe passionfruit and tropical fruits, nectarines, exotic florals, lime marmalade botrytis and honey. Very sweet to taste, a lusciously concentrated core of ripe stonefruits, lime marmalade, honey and tropical fruits is the feature on palate. This has excellent depth, with softly mouthfilling flavours and textures providing an unctuous flow. The wine has a very fine textured line with fresh, background acidity and tension, leading to a rounded, decadent, lingering finish. This is a richly concentrated botrytised Sauvignon Blanc wine with luscious flavours. Match with fruit desserts over the next 5+ years. (375 ml) 18.5/20 Mar 2014 RRP $28.95
