Matahiwi ‘Holly’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 23-Jun-2015
Bright, light straw-gold colour, paler on rim. This has a very fine, tightly bound and elegantly proportioned nose of fresh white and yellow stonefruits, unfolding subtle acacia floral, flinty mineral and smoky detail. The aromatics are taut, primary and show a mouthwatering steeliness. Very dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features tight and penetrating flavours of white stonefruits melded with flint and minerals, along with nutty elements. This has a firm core of flavour and fine linearity, with balanced, lacy acidity underlining the fruit. The wine flows with power and drive, leading to a fresh, detailed finish of stonefruits, nuts and minerals. This is a taut, penetrating Chardonnay with stonefruit and flinty flavours, and a fresh linear palate. It will develop greater richness over the next 5+ years. Match with seafood and poultry. Chardonnay fruit from a single vineyard in the Dartmoor Valley, barrel-fermented partly with indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months on lees in 35% new French oak barrels. 17.5+/20 Jun 2015 RRP $28.99
