Matahiwi Holly Chardonnay 2021, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Feb-2022
Bright, even, medium-yellow with depth. The nose is gently full with elegant aromas of citrus, young stonefruit entwined with clarified butter and spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of citrus taken over by toffee apple, ripe apricot and peach interweave spice and a note of cashew. Integrated acidity carries a smooth grip of phenolics through the palate, reminiscent of citrus zest and stony minerals. Toffee apple lingers on lends an opulent closing with warm spice. This is a rich flavoured Chardonnay with plush fruit flavours, oak details and fine-textured. Match with teriyaki salmon and roasted chicken over the next 5 years. Fruit from Bridge Pa and Crownthrope, clone 15 and Mendoza, fermented in French oak barriques to 14% alc, 20% new oak, aged 9 months with regular batonnage, approximately 30% MLF. 18/20 pts (90 pts) Feb 2022 RRP $31.99
