Matahiwi Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Apr-2016
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with lemon-gold hues, lighter on the rim. This has a finely proportioned nose with fresh and light aromas of yellow stonefruits along with mealy fruit and nutty oak, unfolding bacon-like elements. The aromatics are refreshing and steely with good intensity. Dry and medium-full bodied, the palate possesses a softly rich core of yellow stonefruits, mealy layers and nutty, spicy oak. The mouthfeel is smooth with integrated acidity and a fine-textured, underlying line. The wine flows with freshness and vitality, leading to a bright, smooth finish with good acid crispness. This is an elegant, soft-textured, but fresh Chardonnay with stonefruit, nutty and tasty flavours along with bacony oak. Match with roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. Chardonnay fruit from two sites in the Dartmoor Valley, Hawke’s Bay, cool-fermented in tank with 10% in barrel by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months on lees with oak contact and no MLF. 16.5/20 Apr 2016 RRP $21.99
