Bright, even straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The bouquet is softly rich and layered with complex aromas of mealy, yellow stonefruits, nutty barrel-ferment notes and a flinty, minerally steeliness and freshness. Lemon curd and hints of butter from MLF emerge and build with aeration. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, flavours of citrus and stonefruits are complexed by mealy elements, with lemon curd and butterscotch elements. The wine has some barrel-ferment creaminess to the mouthfeel, but is balanced fresh with crisp and racy acidity. The wine flows with good energy and liveliness leading to a sustained, fine-textured finish. This is a steely, fresh, finely concentrated Chardonnay with complex fruit, nutty oak and MLF layers. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5 years. Clones 15, 95, 2/23, Rua and 6 from the ‘Duncans Paddock’, ‘Croft’ and ‘Ashwell’ sites, hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 20% new French oak barriques, the wine undergoing 100% MLF and batonnage. 18.0+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $40.00
