Martinborough Vineyard Martinborough Syrah/Viognier 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 14-Mar-2014
This has 3-4% Viognier. Full, very dark, deep, black-red, not totally clear and bright. This has an intensely pack and concentrated nose, with cooler, herbal-edged black berry and black peppery fruits, along with lifted savoury herb and oak elements. Quite piquant and penetrating, white pepper and bacon-like oak elements emerge in the glass. Medium-bodied, and firmly expressed with tightness and linearity, black fruits, white pepper and dark herbs are entwined with spicy and charry oak nuances. The mouthfeel is firm and has a hard-edged line, this is fairly mono-dimensioned, and the wine suggested a little leanness and acid cut. Overall there is concentration and drive. A cooler expression with some good depth, to drink over the next 3-4 years. Match with 5-spiced duck. 17.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $48.00
