Marques de Riscal ‘Ardo’ Rioja 2014

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 06-Jun-2016
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, a little lighter with garnet on the rim. The nose is light and tightly bound with restrained aromas of raspberry, savoury cherry and lifted plummy notes, along with subtle earth and cedary notes. Medium-full-bodied, the palate is bright with juicy flavours of dark raspberries, cherries and plums with subtle herbal and liquorice elements. The palate is elegant and slender with light grainy tannins and extraction underlining the fruit, and balanced acid freshness. This has good linearity and drive, and the wine carries to a grainy finish with cherry and liquorice nuances. This is an elegant, sweet cherry, raspberry and liquorice fruited Rioja with a light, grainy-textured mouthfeel. Serve with pasta, pizza, antipasto and barbecued fare over the next 3 years. 100% Tempranillo, hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4 months in cask. 16.0+/20 Jun 2016 RRP $19.99
