Marques de Elciego Rioja Tempranillo 2009

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 01-Mar-2013
Tempranillo from 30 y.o. vines in Rioja Alavesa, aged 8 months in new French oak. Very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour. The bouquet is full with bold, ripe aromas of blackberries and boysenberries, densely packed and exuding richness. Medium-full bodied, up-front, ripe and juicy flavours of black fruits and jammy notes show plenty of primary character. Rich and lush, this is very accessible, and enlivened by discreet acidity, but supported by a firm tannin backbone. There is a fine-textured grip and palate line that leads to a sweet and savoury dark fruited, liquorice nuanced finish. 18.0+/20 Feb 2013 RRP $31.40
