Marques de Elciego ‘Edicion Limitada’ Rioja 2010

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 01-Mar-2013
Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa, aged 18 months in new French oak. Very dark, near impenetrable, purple-hued, black-red colour. The bouquet is explosive with exuberant and full, voluminous aromas of very ripe, lush and opulent black fruits, matched by powerful, spicy, lifted and exotic oak aromas. This is still extremely primary and raw, but the potential ins clear. Full-bodied, massively concentrated and decadent in sweetness and ripeness, this still retains fruit aromatics and flavours of black fruits and dark herbs, plums liquorices and significant oak spicing. The extraction is significant, the tannins ripe and fine-grained, forming a firm, enveloping structure. Yet the palate has a balance and harmony and proper proportion and has signs of good interaction. The power, grip and richness carry through to a long and very concentrated finish. This is a bold statement wine with the richness, density and framework to develop over 15 years. 19.5/20 Feb 2013 RRP $82.10
