Margrain ‘River’s Edge’ Martinborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 07-Sep-2015
A barrel selection wine. Hand-picked fruit, 70% from the ‘River Block’ and 30% Home Block’, fully destemmed and 40% indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 5% new oak. Light ruby-red colour with pale garnet hues on the rim. The nose is elegant and fragrant with lifted red florals intermingling with strawberry and delicate raspberry fruit aromas. Subtle savoury dried herb and some nuances of resinous oak unfold with hints of raspberry liqueur, building in depth and firmness. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the palate features aromatic strawberry and raspberry fruit flavours entwined with dark herbs and lifted by red florals that unfold in ethereal waves. The fruit follows a fine-grained core and line with supple tannins, and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh acidity. Hints of spice emerge adding interest to the raspberry liqueur flavours, which lead to a long, aromatic finish with strawberry and floral elements. This is an elegant and fragrant Pinot Noir with flavours of strawberries, raspberries and herbs and a supple, lively mouthfeel. 17.5-/20 Sep 2015 RRP $24.00
