Margrain Martinborough Gruner Veltliner 2016

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 21-Nov-2016
Bright, light straw colour with slight golden tints, paler on the rim. This has a finely concentrated nose with aromas of white florals and stonefruits, white pepper and nutty nuances, along subtle herbal elements and a suggestion of lanolin. The aromatics are clear and intense. Medium in sweetness and medium-bodied, this has a lush, juicy and succulent palate with flavours of white stonefruits and florals, entwined with pear and hints of honeysuckle, unfolding herbs and white pepper. The fruit is encased by fine-grained phenolic textures and structure, with fresh, zesty, underlying acidity lending tension and energy. This plenty of presence on the palate and the fine textures and structure carry the wine to a rich, lusciously-fruited finish. This Gruner Veltliner is medium in sweetness with rich and luscious stonefruit and floral flavours, along with honey and white pepper, on a positively phenolic structured palate with fresh, zest acidity. Match with poultry, pork and veal over the next 4 years. Fruit from the ‘Craggy Range’ vineyard, Te Muna, 65% tank-fermented and 35% fermented in seasoned oak to 12.8% alc. and 20.0 g/L RS, 30% of the barrel portion (one barrel) undergoing MLF, the wine aged 3 months on lees. 18.0+/20 Nov 2016 RRP $30.00
