Margrain Martinborough Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 07-Sep-2015
Full, even straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues. This has a soft, full and open bouquet with harmoniously integrated aromas of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits entwined with nutty oak and creamy barrel-ferment elements, unfolding savoury secondary detail with aeration. Medium bodied, the flavours of yellow stonefruits are restrained, but unfold savoury, nutty layers with creamy oak elements. The wine is gently mouthfilling and harmoniously integrated, with fine phenolic textures providing depth and a subtle linearity. Background acid freshness lends drive and the wine flows easily to an elegant and dry finish with light stonefruit notes. This is a medium-bodied Chardonnay with an integrated, maturing palate showing yellow stonefruit and savoury nutty flavours. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years. Fruit fully barrel-fermented to 12.8% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 5% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and 50% MLF. 17.5-/20 Sep 2015 RRP $28.00
