Margrain Martinborough Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 20-Feb-2014
Fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 8% new French oak, the wine undergoing 3 months batonnage and 10 months on lees. Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter edged. The nose is elegant and tightly bound with subtle and intricate detail of white stonefruits, citrus fruits, nuts and oak with good depth, unfolding in volume with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is firm and deeply concentrated with flavours of stonefruits and nuts, along with nuances of citrus fruit nuts and flint all harmoniously entwined. The flavours are underlined by subtle power and drive, with good acid balance and fine textures in support, leading the palate to a lingering finish. This is a fine and firmly concentrated Chardonnay with stonefruit and nutty flavours. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 5+ years. 18.0/20 Feb 2014 RRP $28.00
