Mapu Central Valley Merlot 2012

Merlot from Chile
Review Date : 10-Mar-2014
Merlot fruit from Maipo in the Central Valley, Chile, fermented to 13.0% alc., and aged 6 months in vat. Full, very dark, near saturated black-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is bold with up-front and voluminous aromas of ripe blackberry and black plum fruit, along with jam and confectionary whole berry fermentation lift, all integrated with savoury herbal interest. Medium-bodied, plump and juicy blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavours are immediately mouthfilling and underlined by grainy tannin extraction for good palate presence. The acidity is balanced and integrated. The fruitiness gives way to the textures and the wine finishes with tannin grip and quite dry. This is an up-front plummy, jammy Merlot that finishes dry and textured. Serve with pasta and barbecued red meats over the next 3+ years. 16.5/20 Mar 2014 RRP $17.00
