Map Maker Marlborough Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 15-Mar-2013
Hand-picked fruit WBP and fermented with a small portion with solids, 20% in stainless-steel and 80% in seasoned oak puncheons to 13.5% alc. and <2 g/L rs, the wine aged 4 months on lees. Very pale, green-hued straw-yellow colour, very pale on rim. The bouquet is shy in expression, but with vinous presence, showing subtle aromas of white stonefruits, tropical fruit esters and a little nutty barrel work. Dryish to taste, a well-defined line of stonefruit flavours is supported by notes of savoury pears, nutty oak nuances and smoke. Some sweetness from the fruit adds a rounded mouthfeel and soft texture to the palate. The wine has good balanced presence and weight that is carried by a little alcohol power, leading to a sustained finish. This is a subtle-flavoured dry Pinot Gris with some underlying power and presence. Serve with first courses over the next 3+ years. 16.5+/20 Mar 2013 RRP $21.99
