Map Maker Marlborough Chardonnay ‘Pure’ 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Jul-2014
Brilliant, even straw colour with green-gold hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is full and broad with up-front, savoury yellow stonefruit and citrus fruit aromas along with secondary nutty interest. The fruit is straightforwardly accessible. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, clear white and yellow stonefruit flavours are now showing some nutty development notes. The palate is open, mouthfilling and approachable, with a soft core and texture, showing good phenolic handling. There is palate presence which carries through to a flavoursome finish. This is a fulsome, fruit-driven Chardonnay showing some nutty seconday development. Serve with most white meat dishes over the next 2-3 years. Chardonnay fruit hand-picked, WBP and fermented in puncheons to 14.0% alc. and 3.1 g/L RS, the wine then transferred to stainless-steel. 17.0/20 Jul 2014 RRP $20.00 Bright, even, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues. This has a very clean, and pure, penetrating nose of white stonefruits, and citrus fruit, cut by steely, minerally elements. Dry and medium-bodied, driven and linear flavours of stonefruit and minerals are enlivened by racy, slippery acidity. Hints of savoury nuts unfold. The mouthfeel is poised between tension and creamy barrel-ferment textures and the flavours flow with real energy to a crisp, uncomplicated finish with very good length. This is a clean and clear, sleek Chardonnay with plenty of energy and liveliness. Serve with seafood and creamy poultry dishes over the next 3-4 years. Fruit hand-picked and WBP, fully fermented in French oak puncheons to 14.0% alc. and 3.1 g/L rs, then selected on "purity” for stainless-steel maturation. 17.0/20 Mar 2013 RRP $21.99
